Annual Modified Trek event
Wild Rose Stables hosted it's first Annual Modified Trek event on December 15, 2007. This event was open to english and western riders and offered three different divisions. Riding horse, lead-line horse and driving horse (ground driving). Competitors participated in three phases. The first a short group trail ride in which the team received a map and negotiated a trail and obstacles.
The second phase is to judge the control of gaits. Each rider had to complete a portion of the track leaving the farm at the slowest jog/trot or lope/canter depending on experience. On the return portion, all riders had to perform a free walk, fastest time winning. Any break of gait resulted in a 0 score. This proved to be a very difficult task for most riders.
The third phase consisted of an obstacle course including weaving cones, backing around markers, dismounting and ground tying, then remounting from the off side, opening & closing of gates, dragging a large branch (size of a tree) and walking or trotting over a raised log. In all 16 riders competed and the day was ended with a hot dog roast and refreshments.
Couldn't have been a nicer day, sunshine and a great crowd of competitors and volunteers. The next even will be held in early February, weather permitting, and again in April.

The Frauke Behrens Clinic August 8 thru 12 was a huge success. Spots filled within days of advertising for this fun, educational workshop. Frauke began each clinic with video taping each rider. Frauke then examined each rider physically for any posture or imbalance from head to toe. For the following days she used creative methods on horse back to improve the rider as well as the horse's performance. A huge breakthru for several teenage hunter/jumper riders who had complained of lower back pain prior to her workshop. As a coach it was amazing to watch her techniques transform the riders. We had people come from as far as Edmonton (dressage), saw western and hunter/jumpers as well as icelantic horses. Frauke will be returning adding Edmonton to her next location.
On another note, congratulations to these new horse owners: Crystal Stickle is the proud new owner of Boston San Badger, and Teresa Vale purchased two lovely Quarter Horse mares, Veda and Madison McCue. I wish you many happy hours with your new mounts.
Zipped hoodies and track pants have been ordered for all our riders here at Wild Rose Stables. For orders please contact Becky via email beckym4@telus.net |
